Literature Text

A castle nestled in a deep, dark, shadowy forest sat in a corner. Stain glass had grime on them, hiding their beauty from the world, almost a mother protecting its own child. Vines and moss covered the stone. Vines crept up from rose bushes, covering the northern wall. Moss sported from water dripping down the stone, leaving its green stain of mark on the castle. Candle lights flickered from windows, shining down on the outside, bright enough to be seen from a mile away in the forest. Even through rain. The castle was silence, an erie silence. Silence as the forest around it. Wind gave a noise, tapping against windows, trying to barge in. Only in the upper most floors it wanted in. Trying to find its' way in cracks, it successfully did. It raced through the tower, finding the room that hosted a soul that wind wanted. An innocent soul, would be no more. Searching through ever keyhole leading a room, the wind found the room it wanted. The King and Queen’s room. Sliding through the keyhole, it sat there in room, not moving. Just watching the scene in front.

On the bed, laid a woman, deathly pale. Crimson laced her yellow night gown, shallow breaths came from her as a group of midwives kept glancing back and forth between the Queen, King and of course a small bundle of wool blanket. A doctor stood to the side talking to a castle servant, ordering for more hot towels and some tea for them. Nodding to the doctor, the servant walked from the room and toward the main castle to get what was needed. Glancing over, the doctor stared at the King, he was pacing back and forth, glancing every so often his wife. Sighing, the doctor walked over and tapped the King's shoulder and motioned him over to a corner to talk. Complying with the doctor's wishes, the King walked over to him and stared up at him with eyes bloodshot from tears.

"Anthony, your wife has lost a lot of blood, we have done everything we could, but," the doctor stopped, then continued, "she can't make it. The birth was too hard on her body. I say Linda doesn't have long, even if we could stop the bleeding. I am sorry." King Anthony stood there, mouth agape not knowing what to say as the doctor moved away to go to a midwife over by the small basin taking out the bundle to lay next to it's dying mother. Not a sound came from the sleeping baby, hazel eyes stared and wander around the room, taking in it's surroundings.

"Would you like to come see your baby, highness?" An Austrian midwife questioned in a solum voice. King Anthony came out from his trance and nodded, walking his uncontrolled body towards his wife and new born son. Stopping and taking a seat by his wife, he saw a small smile on her face as she glanced towards him; her beautiful, faded, dull green eyes stared into Anthony's soul. Salty tears lingered at the rims of his hazel eyes, trying his hardest to not cry. Searching over Linda's side, he saw his son. His heir, only child, future Prince of Black Forest. Lost in his trance again, he felt his wife's now deathly cold hand around his. Her slight grip around his.

Softly, she spoke, "Anthony, our son will be an handsome, strong..a-and perfect future Prince." Linda coughed and rolled her head over towards her son, put her arm around him then stared back at Anthony. "Wh-what should we name hi-him."

Tears stained the King's eyes as he tried his hardest not to cry when realizing his Queen, wife of thirty years was finally on her last breaths. Gulping down the tears, Anthony reached his body over and laced his hand over Linda's to touch their son. Sniffling for the fiftieth time, the King let out a word, "Frank. Frank Iero."

"Frank..my beautiful Frankie dar-.." Linda's voice trailed off, her hand falling limp over Frank, and head rolling off the pillow even more. Eyes were no more beautiful, vibrant, joyful, hazel orbs. They were now dull and lifeless. Pale gave her once, tanned skin body, almost a ghostly figure she shouldn't have. Full pink lips were this oddly shade now. Anthony's eyes widen as he noticed this. He grabbed his wife and creased her lifeless face, tears fell onto her face, and Frank started to cry when his mother's hand hit his face from Anthony grabbing Linda.

Anthony cried along with Frank, though Frank had no idea what really had happened. Frank's cries fell dead to his father's ear as he hugged his wife. Never once did he take in notice of Frank crying. Crying for why he got hit, to be held, and possibly fed. The midwives and doctor came over, the doctor yelled for the servant, who rushed to the room quickly. A midwife took the future Prince and tried her best to sooth him.

The wind took action. It flew over to the boy, slowly moving around the midwife to find the boy’s face. Once seeing his eyes and face, the wind - more of a cloud of darkness- took its chance and gave itself freely to the innocent soul of an infant, consuming Franks' soul. Suddenly, he stopped crying and looked around the room. He took in notice three people: the doctor, his father, and dead mother. Frank did not understand what was happening, nor knowing what those were lines marking his father's face. Hazel orbs belonging to Frank, identical to his fathers were no more. They were now black and red eyes.

On 31st, October, 1870, the Queen of the Black Forest has died, the Prince has been born, and the Engel des Todes has been born.
